Year 3 has two classes Yarnold and Phipps

Yarnold Class teacher is Miss Da Costa and Phipps Class Teacher is Miss Ridler.

The classes are ably assisted by Mrs Emery Pickles

In line with the New National curriculum, all of the core subjects are planned to meet the objectives. By the end of year 3 children are expected to meet age-related expectations. We consolidate the children’s learning through ‘mastery’ of skills across the 3 Phases and provide opportunities for investigative enriched learning. The children recognise their achievements and build on their next steps of learning. As we aim to raise standards, we encourage our learners to become more independent.

Our children are enthusiastic about their learning and wherever possible we try to make creative links. Often our topic work will link to other subjects such as literacy, DT, art or ICT.

We also endeavour to create real-life learning, for example understanding fractions by sharing slices of cake. This makes a memorable experience too! In year 3 the children take lots of opportunities to learn outside the classroom as ‘Trailblazers’. They develop their knowledge of their environment and ask questions on how it can be improved.

As a parent, please support us by asking questions about their learning. By taking an interest, you will encourage their enthusiasm. You can also help by supporting them to learn their times tables- singing songs can make it fun! (Children are expected to know up to their 8 timestable by the end of year 3) If you have any comments or questions about the work your child has done, please get in touch. Or if you have any expert knowledge to offer on any of our topics, please let us know.

Our current topic is Local Studies where we will investigate the local areas and their history, this ties in with our visit to Eastleigh Museum.

Autumn term- Stonehenge

Homework is set on Fridays and is due in on the following Wednesday. This is either a piece of literacy or maths and spellings.

Each new topic will include a Home learning project where you are given a few weeks to complete a task.

Reading- Children are expected to read daily in order to earn their reads towards a certificate or badge.

75 reads = Certificate, 150 reads = Bronze badge, 225 reads = Certificate, 300 reads = Silver badge

In year 3 children should begin to take responsibility for their reading and complete their log by themselves.
