Welcome to year 6, this is a very important year for the children and the culmination of their time here at Fryern schools. Our aims for the year are as follows:

  1. Help the children to achieve their potential in their learning
  2. Prepare them for the academic expectations of secondary school.
  3. Ensure they undertake responsibilities, demonstrating maturity and commitment.
  4. Finish their time at Fryern school with fun productions and memories that last a lifetime.

To ensure the children fulfil these aims we expect them to always give their best effort and come prepared for school. We will aim to make lessons exciting and varied and meet the expectations of the national curriculum.

Generally homework will be set weekly for Literacy, Numeracy and spellings. There are no home learning projects set in year 6 to allow them more time to focus on these aspects of learning. Reading logs are also expected to be filled in daily.

Our current topic is America Stars and Stripes we sadly can’t afford to go to America!!

When we start our Mayans topic in the summer there will be a visitor for the children to experience aspects of Mayan history and life.

As part of year 6, children are also given the opportunity to go on a residential trip which, this year is to Knapp House. This is an opportunity for the children to develop their independence, experience a wide range of outdoor activities and have fun!

This term PE is on a Monday and Friday but it is expected that their PE kit is kept in school all week to allow for extra PE opportunities or changes to the timetable.

ICT takes place in the school throughout the week through the use of interactive boards, laptops, tablets and ipods. Children are given an opportunity to learn and develop skills in the suite on a Tuesday afternoon.
